Plan A: 3x + 5y = 700
Plan B: 5x + 6y = 950
5(3x + 5y) = 700(5)
3(5x + 6y) = 950(3)
15x + 25y = 3500
-(15x + 18y = 2850)
--------------------------
7y = 550
y = 650/7 or 92.86
3x + 5y = 700
3x + 5(650/7) = 700
3x = 700 - 3250/7
3x = (4900 - 3250)/7
x = 1650/21 or 78.57
cost per night = $ 78.57
cost per dive = $ 92.86

1 Night's Lodging = $42.86
1 Dive = $114.29
Here are the given equations
3x + 5y = 700
5x + 6y = 900
Multiple the first equation by -5 in order to add them together and cancel out the X from the equations.
-15x – 25y = -3500
15x + 18y = 2700
Next, solve for Y
-7y = -800
Y = 114.29
Plug Y back into the original equation to find X
3x + 5(114.29) = 700
X= 42.86
