How to find historical information?

I live in a small town and they don't have micro films of the old newspapers and not much for town history. How can I find out information on happenings in an old abandoned hospital building that was shut down around 50 years ago and has had evidence tap on windows and doors for as long as any one can remember

    1. Make an appointment to see the oldest detective on the police force. Go and interview them, take a voice recorder, take a few specific questions and don't expect them to spend all day on you, so be quick.

    2. Ask the mayor.

    3. Go to the newspaper and ask to see their old files.

    4. Talk to some of the old folks in town.
