I have 2 black Brother HL2040 lasers which cost $50 more than 3 years ago. They are fast and sharp. I buy toner for $6 a bottle off ebay and it lasts for 3,000 pages. If you dont need color or scanning, this is the way to go.
If you need color, the Samsung CLP-300 color laser is under $100 delivered. I just bought my fifth (for a relative) for $96 off ebay delivered brand new. A set of 4 toners is $50 at http://www.ccs-digital.com We had to replace one black toner after a year of use, so they do last for about 2,000 pages. If you dont need scanning and high res photos, this is the way to go.
If you need scanning, fax, wireless, high res photos, fax, document feeder then you want the Epson workforce 500 for $60 (down from about $199). The best warranty in the industry. For a year, Epson will fedex a replacement and pick up the old one should you need it.
