Wikipedia articles are user submitted by people interested in contributing to the site, the fact that there are less articles in Spanish may indicate a lack of interest in Spanish speaking people contributing.
A lot of Spanish speaking people live in countries where English is widely used, for example North America, so may choose to read/submit in English.
