how does england have its own international football(soccer) team?

shouldn't there be a UK team...not a Scottish team AND an English team for the world cup and other similar events? they're all technically one nation. isn't it like 1 American state having its own international team?

No one has answered this properly. We did have a Great Britain side in 1947 captained by Middlesbrough FC defender George Hardwick. It was to celebrate England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland returning to FIFA after they withdrew in 1920. Great Britain won 6-1 against a European dream team.

The reason we no longer have a GB side is that each state has its own sovereignty and its own footballing body. It wouldn't be like American states because the UK is not federal. Each is a member of the UK.

We`are'nt one nation, we're 4 nations. England, Wales, Scotland, and n.ireland.

I know what your saying, but we are united kingdom in respect that we are an island, and our heritage and what we've done in our history makes us United. Plus we can enetr scotland wales and england without a passport.

If we were to have a UK team now, there would be uproar. English hates the scots, scots ate the english, and there would be like 2 or 3 players from wales and n.ireland who would play in the UK team. We are all just happy enough playing as our own country.

The United Kingdom doesn't really exist anymore...it's just a name gievn to our island when we were the British Empire. No one gives a **** about UK anymore, nothing defines as one. We all want seperate governments, and each country hates each other.

    Thats why! lol ;-)

Wales has its own team. England has its own team. Scotland has its own team. Thee end :)

Neh I think the Prime Minister and Queeny are the same but we are independent countriesss, sort like if we still had an empire, Scotland would be part of it and ruled by the same people but it is still it's own country

England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales each have their own football associations. They are each entitled to their own national football teams under FIFA law.

One nation but different countries. Example, north america as a continant consists of america and canada, you wouldnt make a sports team out of these two.
