Most banks require a lot of documentation. The most common are:
A government issued photo ID (Drivers license/Passport/Photo Health Card...etc)
A Birth Certificate
A SSN/SIN card
If you are going to try to get a 'student' type of account you'll also likely need your student ID card.
If your photo ID is a foreign ID you'll also need somehting to prove a current address such as a utility bill in your name (electrical, gas, phone service)
Each bank is different of course, some require more some require less but these are the standard pieces of ID needed.
As for banks you need to go with one that offers you the service that you need.
