There's a handful of modern country artists I listen to but not many: Alan Jackson, George Strait, Garth Brooks, BR5-49, Lee Ann Womack and Kathy Mattea. I also like a handful of 80s artists: Randy Travis, SOME of Kenny Roger's stuff (and yes I realize he dates back to the 60s but the 80s was his biggest decade as far as hit songs go), SOME of Diamond Rio's stuff and a little bit of Restless Heart.
Otherwise, it's pretty much 70s and earlier for me in my country listening. If I had to nail it down to one decade, it's probably the 60s for me. I love Buck Owens' "Bakersfield" sound, early Haggard, Patsy, and the Everly Brothers (if you count them as country...they kinda played both sides of the rock/country fence).
I haven't heard a lot of the 40s/50s stuff yet because I didn't grow up with it...mom and dad listened to rock oldies when I was growing up so I know mostly those songs from the 50s but I'm catching up on a lot of those songs little by little. Love Hank Sr.
