Is Obama's Heath care bill socialism?
Why does everyone think the US will turn into a socialist country from the health care bill? What about schools, police, libraries, postal service, etc. that are all publicly funded?
Because of all these things, and many more, the US is already semi-socialist?

James, you are one of a very few people on Y!A who is actually doing some thinking. I have heard people screaming at town hall meetings that 'there is nothing in the Constitution that says the government has the right to control health care', but there is also nothing that says the government has the right to establish a space program, FEMA, the Center for Disease Control or the National Weather Service, either.
The 'socialism' scare tactic is being used by the insurance companies to scare us into opposing health care reform.

No, the bills that he and most other Democrats are proposing still rely on and support private insurance companies. Under true socialized healthcare, you and your doctor would make the decisions about your care. Under the current system, insurance company representatives who care far more about saving their companies money rather than giving people the care that they deserve do. Democrats are not Socialists or even Liberal, they are simply less Conservative than Republicans are. If you want a society based upon meeting people’s needs (such as their medical needs) rather than making a profit off of the exploitation of others, you should support the true Socialist parties.Source(s): http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-vi... www.sp-usa.org

Yes, Obama's health care plan is plainly Socialist.
We KNOW the US will turn into a socialist country if Obama gets his way because OBAMA SAYS SO and we believe him.
Neither schools, police, libraries, or the postal service control you or your means of production. Obama's health plan DOES in that it makes your BODY literally government property.
The U.S. is indeed already well on its way to completely unConstitutional Socialism. To you, that JUSTIFIES making it more so, doesn't it?
"We're already unlawfully usurping power so it's O.K. to continue doing it" IS the Democrat mantra, after all.

What Obama wants in health care is Socialism but HE don't have a bill yet.
He is working in the background on this, the way all Socialist operate.
That way if it screws up, they can blame someone else.Source(s): Watch his actions, not his mouth

The things you have mentioned have alternatives and don't control me and my freedom of choice. The health care bill will be forced upon us will no freedom of choice and we won't get the care we need. Do you want some government idiot ( NOT A DOCTOR ) making decisions about what care you will receive, or if you will live or die? that's what you will get with this health care. When you take the power out of the experienced Doctors hands what kind of care do you think will be received?

In my opinion: Yes.
When the threat of a single payer system is on the horizon, where freedom of choice is removed, when freedom of speech is only respected if you agree with those in power, then yes we are moving toward something that cannot be undone without bloodshed.

If any one wants to see Gov run health care in action, just go to a VA Hospital and look around.

All of those things you listed run terribly, and just to let you know the Post Office is not publicly funded, and libraries get much of their funding through private trusts.
Everything the government touches turns into a horrible program.

Socialism, is just right wing scary word to keep the ignorant voting against their own interests under that def all insurance is just a private sector option for a socialist idea. (shared risk- shared benefit)

Your examples do not quite fit the bill as far as socialized services. With health care we not have a choice, period. We have a choice now to send our kids to a private school or to a public school. We have a choice to use USPS or UPS, FEDEX, etc. See the difference?
