How can you get the FDA to take a very dangerous drug off the market?
Do alot of people have to die from it? or have permanant brain damage before anyone listens and does something about it?

The FDA will leave it on the market if it is dangerous (cigarettes, alcohol, cough medicine). If it has benefit and ISN'T dangerous, it will become illegal. (Cannabis, opium, psilocybin)Source(s): Botany major. Working on med school now

Safety is monitored by the MedWatch Adverse Event reporting system. The FDA can act on these reports at its discretion. It can issue warnings, recalls etc based on that data, or on information documented in peer reviewed scientific literature.
Generally it will only do so when the risk justifies it, is well documented and supported, or there's a lack of available information.
