I guess you have probably heard some of the early Beatles songs in which they did some covers of some 50's songs like:

Did you ever hear John Lennon's Rock and Roll LP? He did some good covers of the original R&R sounds, but not all on there were fast ones. This was released around 1972.

Creedence C.Revival did some covers of some of the early R&R sounds on some of their albums from about '68 to '72, and really packed a wallop, and they had a few songs of their own, Traveling Band, Molina, and Hey Tonight that was in the early R&R style.
