How do i enter equations such as -6(x+4)?? Please?

Hi,

Could someone tell if its possibe to enter x into the casio scientific calculator or do i have to get the graph one?

Also does anyone know where im going wrong in this question:

-6(x+4)

-6 * x + -6*4

-6x + -24

Anyway the real answer is meant to be -6x - 24, what am i doing wrong?

Ok how about step by step

-6*x + -6*4

-6x + -24

So now am i just droping the + to make it -6x -24 (negative 24) or am i droping the + to make it -6x - 24 (minus 24)

Actually this expression can be done easily without using calculator

but

You didn't do anything wrong when you 'distributed' - 6

You just didn't simplify your answer.

The positive (+) of a negative (-) is a negative

- 6x + (- 24) = - 6x - 24

now solution -6x+6x=-24+24

or, 0=0 ans

It is not considered good form to have two operational symbols in a row. You should look in the manual for your calculator. If it isn't graphical, it probably doesn't have variable entry.

-6(x+4) Now we expand these brackets, times (-6) by (+x), and (-6) by (+4). This equates to (-6x) and (-24), so:

(-6x)+(-24) then, +- is equal to:

(-6x) - 24

And yes you should be able to, I think its a shift button, then press (the normally) orange X.

This is algebra and not arithmetic to be solved in a calculator.

You get the answer by multiplying each of the units inside the brackets by the unit outside the brackets.

-6*x + (-6 * 4) =-6x-24

its so simple , you have to write -6 * x+ * (-24), then the answer is -6x-24. multiply the + sign to open up the bracket.
