The correct answer to your question is not Alexandria in Egypt, but instead ROYAL ASSYRIAN LIBRARY in Nineveh.
It is also called Royal Library of Ashurbanipal after it's creator. Ashurbanipal was the last great monarch of Assyria. One of his projects was to assemble a library of tablets of all the literature of Mesopotamia.

The library of Alexandria is the most famous in ancient history but surely was not the first.
