Convert songs to ringtones on itunes for my iphone?

I have tried a few tutorials on the net, but i always get stuck at one place. The place where you have to change (on the desktop) the name of the file from .m4a to .m4r, however, mine dont come up with .m4a at all in the first place. It just says the name of the song. Please help e with what i am doing wrong. My have itunes 8 and songs downloaded from isohunt.

thanks

This is an awesome ringtone maker:

But unfortunately, I can't use it 'cuz it's in .mp3 while my phone only uses .dcf.
