Liquid Oxygen in "The Abyss" (is this real)?

In "The Abyss" they use a kind of liquid oxygen to breath in deep waters.

Is this system actually real?

Yes, it really works. I wouldn't want to try it though!

Yes it is. To an extent, of course movies make it look different but breathable liquid is out there. It is just highly oxygenated so that our lungs can separate the liquid and the oxygen.

yes. however, you will still feel the sensation of drowning since your lungs will be filled with fluid. i remember reading some articles a long time ago about test animals who could breathe but would die from the extreme stress [from the drowning sensation].
