german capitalization help?

i'm wondering, when in german, do you capitalize the first word in a sentence, and if so, do you have to follow it if that capitalization changes the meaning of the word strongly enough to change the meaning of the sentence?

Yes, and yes. You have grammatical cases in German, so it's very unlikely that such a thing would happen. And you could always try changing the word order.
