    First, Distribute 3/2 over x and 8.

    3/2x + 12 = 6x

    Solve for x. Move 3/2x to the other side.

    12 = 6x - 3/2x

    12 = 4.5x

    divide both sides by 4.5 to get x by itself on one side of the equation.

    12/4.5 = x

    2.67 = x

    --------------

    If it is 3 over 2 (x+8) = 6x.

    then set up a proportion and cross multiply. Observe.

    3/ 2x + 16 = 6x/1

    6x(2x +16) = 3

    12x^2 + 96x = 3

    12 x^2 + 96x - 3 = 0

    Use the quadratic formula to solve for x.

    -b +/- square root of b^2 - 4ac divided by 2a

    -96 +/- square root of 96^2 - 4(12)(-3) divided by 2*12

    Use a calculator.

    Rounded to the nearest tenth, x is equal to 0.03 or -8.0

    Is this cheating?! lol jk.

    First, distribute 3/2 into (x+8). After that, get all the x's onto one side of the equation. So then you'll have only numbers on one side and all the x's on another.

    3/2(x+8) = 3/2x + 12

    3/2x + 12 = 6x

    12 = 6x - 3/2x

    12 = 6x - 1.5x

    12 = 4.5x

    12/4.5 = x

    um hopefully there aren't any mistakes in that...
