What is the opposite of the color gold?

I know that purple is the opposite of yellow but I was wondering if that would hold the same for gold.

Update:

I'm not talking about the metal, but the color. And silver's too far off to be its opposite.

Purple, but depending on the exact kind of gold you are talking about, it could be a different hue. (Why is everyone saying silver??? The opposite of silver is just a little lighter than black, also, the color gold shares the name of the element so please be more specific.)

Magnettz121 is close with his answer, as usually when you look at gold you would say that it is yellow, and so based on a color wheel, the complimentary color or yellow us purple.

Though Tom Riddle is correct in that Gold a mineral and so you cannot really ask for what is the opposite color of it because it does not naturally occur on traditional color wheels.

Gold isn't really an actual color. If you scan a picture of a gold coin into a computer and then click on a single pixel, it won't look golden. The "gold color" effect is the result of the light shining off a gold substance, which makes different areas of it appear as different colors (the color starts being yellow and progressively gets closer to white as it nears the shiniest part). Thus, gold isn't actually a color, so there's no answer to your question.

There's a difference between opposite colours and clashing colours- which are you asking for? Black and white can work very well (eg. men's dinner jacket) so they are opposites but don't clash. Certain shades of pink and green clash, but they're not opposites.

There would have to be some opposite or at least negative of Gold because in film if you look at the negative, whatever is in the negative in place of where the Gold is in the print must be whatever the "opposing" process, turns into Gold, in the positive final print.

There is no opposite of gold. Gold is an element and not a binary term or object. The same for silver. These elements are arranged in tabular form in what is called the periodic table which you can find on the Internet. This may enlighten you to what elements are.

Gold is a precious yellow metallic element, highly malleable and ductile, and not subject to oxidation or corrosion. Symbol: Au; atomic weight: 196.967; atomic number: 79; specific gravity: 19.3 at 20°C.

Source(s): Gold represents a standard of value, so the opposite of gold would represent no value whatsoever. That means that lawyers, politicians, and investment bankers are the opposite for gold.
