As a beginner user with DSLRs, I was told by Y! Answers that the Nikon D40 (supposedly exactly the same as D60) was a great camera. After doing some research, I found that yes, it is a very good camera, and also an easy one for 1st time DSLR users.
BUT I ended up buying a Canon G10 which is not recommended for beginners, yet I have no problems with it. It's an excellent camera for everything I've been doing, especially macro and sunsets. Also, with the 14 megapixles it's hard to get a grainy picture. And the zoom is 5x, so you can get super far away shots (and they look good, too). You can also attach different lenses to it, get a waterproof case for underwater pics, and get different flashes to add on.
And guess what the plus side is? It's only $500!! That's the same price as the Nikon D60!
