    For a Pistol: .45 acp

    For a Rifle: 7.62X51mm (.308)

    For a Shotgun: 12 gauge

There are more powerful rounds but eventually the recoil gets ridiculous and impractical to use so these are the best.

The Dum Dum round - 19th century British round. Expands on impact.

20 mm cannon, but it's not something most people are comfortable carrying around.
