Why is the minimum wage being raised so high?

The federal minimum wage is now being increased to $7.25 an hour. It will be a huge strain on businesses throughout the country. It will cause many more jobs to be shed due to this outrageous increase.

Why is the minimum wage being raised so high? $6.55 was already more than adequate to support a comfortable lifestyle.

The Democrats are clueless about how to run a business.

Seriously, $6.55 could not adequately support a comfortable life style. Besides, a minimum wage job is an entry level job or a job used to supplement an income. It is not meant to be a job to support a family on.

The reason why it was passed in the House of Representatives is because the Democrats proposed the legislation knowing that the Republicans couldn't oppose it on their principles because they would get voted out of office. Looks like giving up their principles didn't help them this time either.

hahaha right. you try living comfortably and feed a family on 6.55 an hour.

it is kind of bad timing, but the bill that said min wage would be raised this year was signed a few years ago before the economic problems

If you work 40 hours a week every week of the year and earn minimum wage you will earn $15030. a year. Adequate if you live in a cardboard box on a subway grate

I would like to know where in the USA you can enjoy a comfortable life style on $15K a year. More info please.

How is 7.25 "high"? 6.55 is ridiculously low. 7.25 isn't anywhere near the cost of living, either. How does 6.55 support "a comfortable lifestyle? Either you're stupid, or you're intentionally trolling.

Congress does not give a crap about minimum wage except for the fact that many of the union contracts are based on a multiple of minimum wage. So a .75 /hr raise in the minimum wage, results in a 2,3,or more times .75 raise for the union cronies.

Congress cares nothing for the poor unless it is election time.

A full time job at $6.55/hr is $13,624 per year. Where do you live where that can buy a comfortable lifestyle?

If a 28 dollar a week raise strains a small business, that business is failing already. There is no way you can tell me that 28 bucks a week per employee will damage, or strain the business.

Because of inflation and the rise of the cost of living. $7.25 is still barely livable for most people. Especially if you have no health insurance or a young family, or both.

In order to destroy more jobs and have more people become slaves to the government. since they wont have a job.

You people know nothing. If there wasnt a Federal Reserve causing inflation. 2 dollars and hour would go a very long way. You want your money to be worth more? Get rid of the fed.

Higher wages come from production not legislation.

13k before taxes is a comfortable lifestyle?

Maybe if you're single with no kids and live with your parents.
