What's wrong with my computer?

Question

I just built my own PC and It works great except when I try to use some external data device (external usb hard drive, inserted CDs)as soon as I try to open My Computer it locks everything up and I can't do anything unless I restart. I can't even bring up the task manager or remove the device to fix it. Does anyone know what I'm missing here?

It's running Windows XP Pro.

i recommend contact the person fom whom u bought pc...if its new...its in warrenty.......otherwise try reinstalling windows
