well you see, there are 6 lines and each of them represent a string on the guitar

    e----------------------------------------------------------

    B----------------------------------------------------------

    G----------------------------------------------------------

    D----------------------------------------------------------

    A----------------------------------------------------------

    E----------------------------------------------------------

the "E" is on the very bottom is the low E and so on so forth, each of the numbers represent a fret, so when you see this

    e----------------------------------------------------------

    B----------------------------------------------------------

    G------------------------5--5-----------------------------

    D--------------3---3--------------------------------------

    A----------2-----------------------------------------------

    E--3--3----------------------------------------------------

Its saying play two "G"'s one "B" two "F"s and 2 "C"s in that order, tabs are read left to right and they usually don't show rhythm so you can't play it well without having heard the part being played the words on the bottom show the lyrics that play during the guitar part it shows. after a while of playing guitar you will be able to only have to listen to a song and you'll be able to know the notes that go along with it.

Good luck in your guitar ventures

These tabs should be finger picked. If you use a thumb pick then all of the notes on the sixth and fifth strings should be played with your thumb (its an alternating bass pattern. The fourth and third strings can be played with your index finger or your middle depending on whats more comfortable. Your ring finger should be used for the high E string. If you don't have a thumb pick try it without using a pick, or if you want to use a pick just use your pinky for the high E string. As far as which finger goes to which string it always depends on what feels most comfortable to you, so try out different styles, but this is an alternating bass pattern and for the low E and low A strings you want to use your thumb, thumbpick, or pick.

You finger pick them. Use Your thumb to pick the notes on the bottom of the tab, and use your index, middle, and ring fingers to pick the rest, pick them in the order the tab shows, the notes on the left you play first and as you move right you play in that order.
