There is no such thing as a "totally" non-shedding dog. All dogs shed at least a little hair at one time or another, as do humans. There are however dogs that shed little to no hair and poodle x do more often shed hair!

Genuine Low shedding dogs, i have not including designer mutts as simple most designer mutts will shed!

Surprisingly a Miniature poodle! I grew up with three any they are the best! I had a pitbull/lab mix and my grandma's poodle would hear things and bark WAY before my dog even had a clue what was going on. I'm not the only one that thinks so. On the Dogs 101 show on the animal planet they talked about the Miniature poodle they said the same thing lol Plus they don't shed =)

All dogs shed. There are few dogs who shed less. Check this out:

Poodles are the most famous of non-shedding dogs... and although wouldn't be able to effectively 'guard' a property, such as say, as shepherd would be able to, they do bark alot, and the standard ones are large enough to intimidate, without being too large, or hard to handle

A Standard Poodle. They don't shed and are allergy free. They are large enough to be fanastic guard dogs, when trained properly too!!!

You could try a westie. They don't shed much, and being terriers, they instinctively protect their territory and would warn by alot of barks.
