You are employed by a marketing research firm and have conducted an attitude study for a client. Your data indicates that the product is not being marketed properly. This finding is badly received by the client's product management team. They request that you omit that data from your formal report, which you know will be widely distributed, on the grounds that the oral presentation was adequate for their needs. What do you do?

A: There are two fundamental questions you need to evaluate. First, is it well communicated and understood of what the client's needs? Second, is the approach correct in conducting this type of the research?
A good marketing research firm should not only deliver fact base data to the clients, but also be able to provide consultative service including recommendation of how to use the data for future product release improvement. In your case, if both answers to the above questions are YES, then you should consider standing firm on the original results. However, to add true value to your client, you should also provide research approach, reasons, and recommendations (such as product strength and weakness, opportunity, etc). If there is any office politics involved, you should be sentitive tailoring your communication as well.
