Here are some 100% FREE tricks to making your computer faster.

First, here are some basic questions.

    1. Do you have documents stacked in your computer that are useless? Sort them out from the ones needed, and unneeded. Documents - ESPECIALLY music files is what trashes your computer's memory. So make sure you have those cleared first.

    2. Uninstall any programs that aren't used by going to start - control panel - add or remove programs. You might be surprised how many programs you have that you never use!

After clearing the basics, let's move to the IMPROVEMENT.

    1. Click start - run - type in %temp% - delete all the files in that folder, and empty your recycle bin.

    2. Click start - run - type in msconfig - click startup tab - uncheck all of the programs if you don't need them to startup when you turn on your computer. If you need some to startup, then leave it checked. Once you do this click "ok" - exit with restarting.

    3. Download 'Free Ram Optimzer XP' - http://download.cnet.com/Free-Ram-Optimizer-XP/300...

The following is a list of ways you can improve your computer's performance. These steps are intended to be used in order. The key is to do the simplest and least invasive thing first until your system starts responding better.

    1. Make Sure Your Hardware is Sufficient. 2. Clean Your Desktop.3. Scan Your Windows System for Errors.4. Scan for Viruses, Spyware and Adware.5. Uninstall Unused Programs.6. Adjust Visual Effects for Better Performance.7. Don’t Automatically Start Programs.8. Defragment Your Hard Drive (After you have tried everything else).

Important Note: Before you even try this, backup all your work onto a different computer, hard drive, CD or disk. Also, you should only do this if you have a reliable source of power for your computer. Doing this when there is a brown out or power problem in the neighborhood, is not a good idea. If a computer turns off while it is defragmenting a drive, it will create more problems than not defragmenting it in the first place.

If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don't always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

First, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

    2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:

    1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser

    2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".

    3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.

    4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.

    5. Click OK.

    3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by altering your msconfig. Here is how:

    1. Open your Start menu.

    2. Click Run

    3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"

    4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab

    5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

    6. Click "OK"

Clean your Registry can make your computer faster

Microsoft Registry Problems = Slow Computer!

The Windows registry, Containing information and settings for all the hardware, software, users, and preferences of your computer, whenever you make a change to the Control Panel settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in the registry.

When the Windows registry becomes very large, your computer’s can become very slow and it can cause it to be unstable.

Defrag, it gives a fair boost. Turn down all of the sleek features of Vista, they consume extra system power and makes you lag. Other than that you need to spend some cash.

Well to be honest it can be a lot of different things that can affect a computers performance. And I think the best way to know if your PC is corrupted with errors is by giving your computer a free diagnostic scan:

I think one of the best and savest there is. Your computer will be literally forced to perform at maximum speed.

    Hope it helps.

Before buying anything, make sure there isn't a bunch of stuff running in the background.

    goto RUN then type MSCONFIG

goto the startup tab and turn off as much stuff as you can.

uninstall old programs, ignore the person who says new computer. they must make computers for a living. more RAM is good, maybe a new hard drive if the one you have is old. best to get a friend who knows about comptuers to come round and check your system
