I have done some research about the legal status of this University because I really love their programs and I am pretty sure heir diplomas are totally legal:

Bircham International University and Consumer Guarantees and Protection

During the year 2005, the Spain National Institute of Consumer Affairs (Instituto Nacional de Consumo - INC) from the Spain Ministry of Consumer Affairs awarded Bircham International University with the official distinction of consumer protection. Additionally, in 2011, Bircham International University was audited and granted the ONLINE TRUST seal which is the demonstrates the highest level of ethical commitment and responsibility towards consumers. This seal is also endorsed by the Spain National Institute of Consumer Affairs (Instituto Nacional de Consumo - INC).

The Spain Ministry of Consumer Affairs monitors BIU activity, the non-formal nature of the programs offered and the quality of instruction delivered. The applicable law is Decreto 84/2004 de 13 de Mayo (Enseñanza General).

Hi Soul.... John Bear, an author with expertise in Earning Degrees by Distance Learning (book) considers Bircham International University as an unaccredited university in the USA, but also explains that Bircham is not a Diploma Mill. He explains that: "Bircham International University describes itself as a practitioner of non-formal education. As such, while it operates legally under Spanish law, it is not formally recognized by the Ministry of Education of Spain (where it is located), although the Ministry has acknowledged the relevance of the concept, and, along with other countries in the European Union, is working toward establishing policies to identify, evaluate, and recognize those entities offering non-formal education . Bircham does not have (nor does it need to have) recognized accreditation."

John Bear also states that "For many years, we have written that in the process of choosing any school, the prospective student should determine, as best he or she can, that their credential will meet both their current and predictable future needs. Based on the testimonials offered by Bircham, it seems clear that there are many satisfied people with the their credential."

This should shed some light on the subject.....

Bircham International University and the Wikipedia entry is an interesting issue. It seems there is a big discussion about this issue as you can read at the talk page of the article and that some wikipedia editors are not willing to establish a Neutral Point of View as stated by Wikipedia policy.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Bircham_Interna...

You can also see Bircham University arguments that are not considered in the Wikipedia article.

Based on the above, the Wikipedia article is to be considered with quite relative credibility.

Bircham International University is a private independent institution of distance learning higher education that offers adult degree programs: Bachelor’s (B.B.A., B.S., B.A.), Master’s (M.B.A., M.S., M.A.), Doctorate (Ph.D.) and professional diplomas (Specialist & Expert) through full distance learning. BIU is registered in the USA (Delaware), the European Union (Spain) & the Commonwealth (Bahamas). Degree syllabus are completed entirely by correspondence. BIU will mail some textbooks and will require you to write reports as a way of evaluation. More information at BIU Web site: www.bircham.edu

BIU is a provider of non-formal or non-traditional education. Non-formal education programs do not follow the contents and requirements established by a Ministry of Education, thus BIU non-formal education programs cannot lead to degrees officially recognized by the Spain Ministry of Education. BIU is accredited, recognized or member of several international bodies and meets the quality standards of such organizations in different countries. None of these international bodies are recognized by CHEA USA (Council of Higher Education Accreditation). CHEA is the most relevant accreditation standards reference for the USA. More information at BIU Human Network: www.bircham.net

BIU degrees are valid for many purposes but not for all. Acceptance of students or graduates is always the prerogative of the receiving institution or employer. Because BIU is not accredited by a recognized accreditation body in the countries where it operates, its degrees and credits might not be acceptable to employers or other institutions, and use of degree titles may be restricted or illegal in some jurisdictions. For example, BIU degrees may not be used in some US States such Texas, Maine and Oregon.

The BIU Discussion Forum at www.bircham.us provides links and detailed explanations about many references, both positive and negative. Distance learning is not for everyone, or for all purposes. Use your common sense to evaluate this school and do some research through the links provided.

Accreditation is very important when the student needs to look for a job or wants to continue his/her studies to an accredited institution but it is not linked with any personal development. I think it is not necessary to talk of accreditation but to look for information telling if BIU gives a good education or not. With my personal experience, BIU has given me a strong foundation in resolving technical problems and in practical ways. BIU does not tell a student to go for internship to understand the materials. The revolutionary education system brought on board by BIU permits the beneficiary of the program to have the theory and the skills to act after he/she has graduated. Employers who accept BIU degrees do not complain as well as self-employed former students.
