Basics for setting up in room recording studio (hip-hop, r n b)?

I recently bought a new laptop...i was wondering what software and equipment i should get for making beats, recording vocals, and editing. Also what sort of mic i should invest in and any other equipment that will be needed. Any advice would help..inexpensive

    depending on what type of laptop you got( i assume it is not a mac or you probably would have specified that) but nuendo and adobe audition are good for recording and editing. fl studio is a good beginner program for making beats and lots of producers with platinum records use it as well. all those softwares can be downloaded for free. you can use any microphone as a start up but i would suggest getting a good recording interface for good sound. you can find good cheap ones made by m audio(one of the best and most trusted equipment companies) on for around $100. check out for info on equipment and studio setups from beginner to pro
