the shortest to take the field in 2004 was Donnie Sadler of Arizona at 5'6". He has since been released, so the likely current holder is David Eckstein of Anaheim, listed at 5 foot 6.

Of course, the shortest ever is the 3'7" Eddie Gaedel, who had one at-bat as a pinch hitter for the St. Louis Browns under legendary showman Bill Veeck in 1951. Wearing the number 1/8, he walked on four straight pitches.

Either David Eckstein (Padres) or Dustin Pedroia (Red Sox). Eckstein ins 5-7 and Pedroia is listed as 5-9 but he is really about 5-6ish.

It used to be Chad Allen for the Twins, he was like 5'3 and Chuck Knob, for the Yanks/Royals who was 5'6 I think. That was back in 98-00 though.

Now I think it's *David Eckstein for the Pads who is 5'6, 5'7

Of course there was Donnie Sadler who was also 5'6 for the Diamondbacks in 06.
