Why is Las Vegas called Sin City?

I believe it was a nickname given to us by the residents of nearby Boulder City, a town founded during the construction of the Hoover Dam. The tent city around the construction site was rife with gambling, prostitution, drinking and violence. Boulder City arose as a more wholesome place for the workers and their families, so it only made sense to call Las Vegas "Sin City."

Well years ago you do just about anything here that you couldn't do anywhere else. Prostitution was legal in Vegas years ago but no longer is. Gambling, drinking, nudity are things considered sins in most parts of the country but legal here.Source(s): http://www.myvegasbuddy.com
