If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use redsn0w right now. Ultrasn0w (the 3G carrier unlock) is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be released via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 carrier unlock works with this redsn0w release.

Here's what I did. FOR AN IPHONE 2g!

0 update itunes to latest version (8.2 at the moment)

1 upgraded my iphone to 3.0 using itunes 8.2

2 it backed up my iphone after update

3 tmobile still works after update at least for a moment...

4 yes and no. it worked. calls made. cydia gone. but within a

few minutes service was lost. not sure if that was "permanent" or not

    5 ran redsnow - simpler than p0wnage tool -

    6 use these directions

7 got my bootloader bins from

8 got my ipsw from there too (which is really from apple as far I can tell)

9 success! all seems well. 3.0, cydia, and working phone!

10 no data loss, though I did have to reload my cydia apps. I even had recorded stuff with cycorder before the update. I had to reload cycorder and all my recorded videos were still there.

11 you can use aptbackup (find it on cydia) to backup your cydia apps (data?) I didn't use it because I don't have much cydia stuff.

The Jailbreak got released today, and it works like a charm. To Jailbreak go to the site below and download the torrent file. When it done let the program create the custom .ipsw file. When it has saved that, go to iTunes and hold the option key as you click on restore.

    Have fun ;-)

As for the unlock, you're going to have to wait until ultrasn0w gets released. It should come out tonight but I'm not sure if they have fixed all the bugs yet. That will be available through Cydia/Icy when it does get released.

    How ya doin'?:

I suggest you do not jailbreak the device. Since jailbroken app developers don't have to follow memory and CPU usage guidelines set by Apple, the end result might be reduced battery life, slower performance relative to non-jailbroken iPhones and possible random reboots when the jailbreaking method is not mature.

    Have a good day

You gotta be really careful buying an unlocked phone. I bought on one at an ATT supported franchise and not thru a official ATT store. I could not get on the internet so I took it back. You have buy a locked phone for that particular network or know a person that is knowledgeable in locking and unlocking phones. It would probably be easier to just send it back and go thru ATT.

Guys the answer is here .... this will unlock both the 2g as well as the 3g ( >>NOT the 3GS<< ) . Its simple and its a product of the Dev team.

Read about it here an also get the official & unofficial downloads. Its called redsnow 0.7.

The very first post on the blog . I just unlocked mine (2g 1st gen ) and it works like a charm. Best of Luck !!

    Thanks Dev Team .
