    What about...

    1. "His studies culminated in his award of a gold medal."

    Or

    2. "His studies culminated in the reception of a gold medal."

I need a context to be remotely helpful. It's probably just "award," going by "awardment." "John appreciated the award of the Purple Heart for the loss of his pinkie toe." "John received an award of the Purple Heart ..."

    Any more details?
