Is it true, about unlimited inbox space?

There are some email providers that claim to have unlimited storage in an inbox per user, is this seriously possible I mean how does the web server for this work. There can't be a web server with infinite space!

    They don't need to have a server with infinite space since only a very small percentage of users will actually use large amounts of space.

    For example, most users will only use less than 50MB of their inbox space, while around 1% of users will use hundreds of MBs of space.

    So on average, they only need to allocate a few hundred MBs per user (or less) and it will be sufficient for everyone.
