”death” and ”pass away”

As I know the words "death" and "pass away" got the same meaning. Would there be any difference(s) on the use between them?

The differences between "die" & "pass away" :

我們說自己或別人的家人或親友離世, 時常用上 "pass away", 以示尊敬, 或避免聽者難過; 但其實對一些素未謀面的人, 也未必不能用 "pass away", 這要看情形而定, 例如 the patient passed away without any pain in hospital。

"Pass away" 和 "die" 同樣可用於人, 但一些情況下, 卻又一定要用 "die" 而不能是 "pass away", 例如:he died for his beliefs (他為自己的信仰而死) ; Bruce Lee died young (李小龍英年早逝) ; he died a poor man (他死時窮困潦倒) ; the pedestrians died a tragic death (前幾天旺角小巴車禍, 你覺得途人死得很慘, 可以用這句英文)。
