R&P...Dedicate A Song To The Heroes Of D-Day?
Today is the 65th anniversary of the D-Day landings when nearly 200,000 Allied troops entered France along the coast of Normandy to fight the Nazi's. British, Canadian, and American troops. over 2500 men lost their lives that day. Without their sacrifice a lot us us would be speaking German today!
MQ. What song would you like to dedicate to these heroes?

I was going to do this question when I got up in the morning, since it's still the 5th where I am, so I was happy to find this here.
My original song choice was the Dire Straits version of the one you chose, but I think this one is nice, too. I am told that when you visit the Allied Memorial in Normandy in the evening, you sometimes hear it drifting on the ocean breeze. I know it's an American thing, but since, especially at Normandy, Americans lived with Brits and Canadians, and died with them, too, maybe they can share this song, as well.
I am grateful for their sacrifices, and I think of them often.

What a great song and a wonderful tribute. Thanks.
MA: This is a video tribute to The Soldiers of World War II. Not a rock song but it has some great pictures of the soldiers and is set to classical music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUxfGkwuC3o
If I Were King - Queensryche
I have so much more to say, my brother.
Can you hear me?
A fool is left to live as the brave ones fall.
I swear if I were able,
I would have done the same for you.

You chose the one that i immediately thought of hun! :)
The only one other one that i can think of is Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler, which although is thought of as being sort of a cheesy song, is pretty appropriate lyric wise.
I am very grateful for what all of those men did. Thank you for asking this question!
