These days, it seems that everyone loves wearing plaid. It can be seenon things like short skirts, shirts, and designer bags. But what's the history of this special striped pattern?

Plaid comes from Scotland, where it is called “tartan”.

Long ago, the local people began weaving fabric into striped patterns.

Because they used plants to give the fabric its color, the fabric looked different in each place.

Often, the color and style of tartan showed which area a person came from.

In the 1700s,Scottish men in the British army wore their own tartan to show where they were from. In the 1800s,it became popular for families to give an official name to their tartan.

That is why today , many tartans have names, such as MacKintosh and Stewart.

Today, tartan is more commonly called plaid. It is still sometimes usedas uniforms for schools, even right here in Taiwan.

Plaid is so popular because it can be worn in many ways and found inmany different colors.

Form plaid pajamas to Burberry scarves, plaid will probably never go out of style!

It is still sometimes used as uniforms for schools, even right here in Taiwan.

    人們現在稱“Tartan(塔單)”為蘇格蘭格紋了。

Plaid is so popular because it can be worn in many ways and found inmany different colors.

Form plaid pajamas to Burberry scarves, plaid will probably never go out of style!
