Which Herman Hesse book would make the best movie?

Peter Camenzid, Beneath the Wheel, Gertrude, Damien, Klingsor's Last Summer, Siddhartha, Steppenwolf, Narcissus and Goldmund, Journey to the East, or the Glass Bead Game?

(Also, who should star in it?)

Steppenwolf, because the visuals would be stunning, especially if done in a "Sin City" style. Maybe starring Christopher Ecclestone.

"Under skies, heavy with snow, my eyes are convex lenses, of ebony, embedded in Amber".

"I am a Manwolf, upright on two feet, in the City, dressed sombrely as a Man"
