    The Five permanent members poses the veto right and they are:

    United Kingdom

    United States

    China

    Russia

    France

    They were selected from among the nations who emerged victorious in WWII.

    In addition to the permanent members, there are 5 non-permanent members, elected to the Security Coucil by the General Assembly. They do not have the veto power. At present and until 31 Dec, 2010, these countries are:

    Australia

    Uganda

    Japan

    Mexico

    Turkey
