The Bay of Pigs Invasion, was an unsuccessful attempt by a U.S.-trained force of Cuban exiles to invade southern Cuba with support from U.S. government armed forces to overthrow the Cuban government of Fidel Castro. Professor and the first post-revolution Prime Minister José Miró Cardona was chosen to lead the planned provisional government.

The plan was launched in April 1961, less than three months after John F. Kennedy assumed the presidency in the United States. The Cuban armed forces, trained and equipped by Eastern Bloc nations, defeated the exile combatants in three days. The bad Cuban-American relations were exacerbated the following year by the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The invasion is named after the Bay of Pigs, which is possibly inaccurately translated from the Spanish Bahía de Cochinos. The main landing at the Bay of Pigs specifically took place at the beach called Playa Girón.

JFK did not want to invade Cuba. The Bay of Pigs invasion was put together by the Cuban exile community, the CIA and President Eisenhower before Kennedy came to the White House. Cuban exiles left Cuba because of fear of the communist regime of Fidel Castro. The US was not happy having a communist country 50 miles off the coast of Florida. The invansion force, supported, equiped and trained by the CIA's military branch was made up almost exclusively of Cubans. A KEY to any possible success in landing the invasion and forming a revolt against Castro (the aim of the invasion) rested on Air Support to be given by the US Air Force. When Kennedy came to office he millie mouthed around and at the last minute withdrew the critical air support. The invasion in April of 1961 was an abject failure. It's debatable whether or not they would have been successful even if US Air Support allowed them to gain a bridgehead on the island.

The CUBAN MISSLE CRISIS happened AFTER the had NOTHING to do with the other.

The Cuban Missile crisis, America was building up it's nuclear infantry but so was another country, Russia. Russia being a Communist nation supported other countries willing to comply with Nikita Kruschev's policies (Russia's Leader at the time.) Nikita saw that Cuba a struggling country was looking for a bit of power so they gave Cuba an nuc. This Missile was pointed at America and could almost anyway in America excluding North California Oregon, Alaska, and Hawaii. We freaked out then later Nikita and JFK agreed to stop the race for arms.

As soon as JFK came to power he was informed by the cia of their plans to invade cuba. The reasons for this was castros overthrowing of the cuban govt and taking power for himself. He started to nationalise big cuban buisnesses which were owned by mostly U.S buisnessmen/women. The U.S responded by stopping trade with Cuba and in response Castro turned to the Soviet Union. They began to trade and eventually Castro announced that cuba was a communist country. This alarmed the U.S because cuba was in its sphere of influence which meant that the U.S had to do something about it or else they will look weak. The result was the failed bay of pigs invasion.
