How can solar energy power be sustainable?

Were you planning on surviving long enough for the sun to burn out?

Sustainability is the ability to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.
There was a time when the fossil fuels (e.g. oil, coal) on earth were thought to be plentiful and perennially available. However, it is now known that they are not - at the current rate of consumption, we will run out of them faster than we think.
But we will still need energy in the form of electricity, heating, cooling, etc. in order to survive. This is where the search for alternate fuels and sources of energy begins. The sun is a perennial source of energy, and so is the wind. Therefore, using these sources to meet our demands will neither deplete the finite fossil fuels, nor will we ever run out of their energy. Electricity generated from the sun (through solar panels for example) or from wind (through wind turbines) does not pollute the environment, as the fossil fuels do when they are burned to generate power.
These properties make the power generated from the sun and wind sustainable and the future generations can expect a cleaner environment as well as a perennial source of energy.

Well, since I have lived on solar off the grid for over 16 years now, prehaps I can help answer this question. My solar panels will under normal circumstances provide all the power I need. However , on cloudy days or stormy days, they have a greatly reduced capicity to gather the rays from the sun. Then generally a wind generator will pick up and supply the power needed. On those rare days with neither sun or wind, then you have to resort to a back up generator for a couple of hours to charge up your batteries which works very well.

Solar energy is sustainable because it does not consume resources (except for the initial install). In other words it does not need or consume fuel (such as petroleum which has a finite supply).
Solar energy is plentiful and unlimited.

Everything is sustainable, but only for a finite time. Some fuels (such as oil) are only good for a short time because we are using them much faster than they're being created. Solar on the other hand is good for much longer because it works for as long as the sun shines, which will be billions of years.

by ability of putting in photograph voltaic panels on residential rooftops, you're effectively lowering the choose for sparkling capacity plant life that have a large ecological footprint. most of the capacity in this u . s . is equipped by ability of coal. while burned, coal produces an array of pollution alongside with; carbon dioxide, sulfur, and mercury. It additionally makes use of water routed from a flow for cooling. That water is then positioned back into the flow at a lots larger temperature having an impact of the community flora and fauna. yet another earnings of residential photograph voltaic is a alleviation in new transmission lines that would desire to be equipped and a greater useful grid potential for the time of height utilization circumstances lowering brown outs and black outs. even nonetheless there's a footprint from photograph voltaic, the clever lifespan of panels will cut back that footprint.

We need clear skies. That means no pollution from Coal Power plants any other event to block our exposure to the sun
