Quick chemistry question about covalent bonding?

I'm just wondering what makes the differnece of whether an element is joined by a single, double or triple bond? Like H2 is H - H but 02 is O = O and N2 is a triple bond... I'm just wondering what is the difference between these elements that causes the different amount of covalent bonds? the number... show more I'm just wondering what makes the differnece of whether an element is joined by a single, double or triple bond?

Like H2 is H - H
but 02 is O = O
and N2 is a triple bond...

I'm just wondering what is the difference between these elements that causes the different amount of covalent bonds? the number of electrons?

i know its not the most intelligent question but i cant be bothered to work it out as i am tired and BORED of revisinig chemistry haha
Update: ok cool so its electrons yeah that was just annoying me but got it now haha cheers
