Water flows through a pipe with the inner diameter of 16 cm at a speed of 0.8m/s.

(a)Find the volume of water flows out from the pipe per second.

(b)The height and the base area of a cylinder tank are 1m and 2m respectively.How long does it take to fill the tank with water flows out from the pipe above?(Express your answer in minute.)

(a) The volume of water flows out from the pipe per second is

[( 16 / 2 )cm]^2 兀 X 0.8m = ( 64 cm^2)兀 X 80 cm= 5120兀 cm^3

(b) The height of a cylindrical tank is 1m.

The base area of a cylindrical tank is 2m. ( The dimension is not correct, it should be 2m^2, right ? )

Volume of the cylindrical tank is 2 m^2 X 1m = 2 m^3 = 1000000 cm^3

In order to fill the tank with water flows out from the pipe above, it takes

1000000 / 5120兀 seconds = 62.170 seconds = 1.036 minutes

I am sorry that I make a mistake in Part (b).

Volume of the cylindrical tank is 2 m^2 X 1m = 2 m^3 = 2000000 cm^3

Therefore it takes 2000000 / 5120兀 seconds = 124.340 seconds = 2.072 minutes
