    Work (J) = Force (N) x Distance (m)

    It is measured in joules so it is a unit of energy.

    I think of it like a box requires a certain amount of force to move it, the further you push it, you have to put more energy into it - do more work. It works for lifting and pushing etc, as long as the distancel is the same direction that the force is acting.
