why so many earthquakes in southern california latley?

leading up to big one? or no?

    California has hundreds of earth quakes every year. Most of them are 3.0 or lower on the Richter scale so you don't feel them. The Pacific Plate is basically circular shaped, and is ever so slowly turning in an counter clockwise direction. An earthquake in one part of the plate puts stress on other parts so there may be a quake in California today, and in Alaska or Japan, or Indonesia, or off Peru sometime later. It's an unending process.

    You shouldn't worry about minor /moderate earthquakes. They relieve the stress on our portion of the fault. When you should worry is when there has not been ANY activity for decades. That is when the stress builds up causing a major quake.

    that's just the way southern california is; its earthquake country. is it because we are due for the big one anytime soon? maybe. but that's really nothing to worry about
