Hi There -

Started a company last year, based out of CT. Doing business in CA. Do I need to charge sales tasks on professional services (web programming)?

Thanks

The agency that handles sales tax in California is called the Board of Equalization. Franchise Tax Board handles income tax.

Web programming services are not taxable. If you sold any tangible personal property, such as equipment or sold discs along with any services, you would have taxable sales.

Here is the regulation explaining what type of computer services are taxable.

It depends on the state as each has different laws.

You'll need to contact the CA Franchise Board, which is CA's name for their version of the Dept. of Taxation.

Contact the Ca. Dept. of Revenue.

With the budget deficit they have, don't be surprised if you do.
