Never pay for "identity theft protection" -- the costs are ridiculous. Worse, the more places that have your SSN, DOB, home address, and other info about you, the greater your risks of ID theft! Why pay $$ to put you at greater risk?
I hope you did NOT put your SSN, drivers license #, home address, phone # on your newly printed checks. If you were dumb enough to do this, destroy every one of those checks (and I do mean destroy! not discard), and order new.
While your bank may have your full name on the account, it should not be on your checks - use initials. Never use your home address, use your mailing address (and get your bank statements sent there, too). No phone # on checks -- if you have to give one out when writing a check, use your message phone, never your personal cell phone or home landline phone.
Nobody but your employer, SSA & IRS need your SSN. So stop giving it out! Anybody other than employer, SSA or IRS who asks for your SSN should be confronted for their lack of respect for you, their endangering of you by exposing you to opportunities for ID thieves, and their downright nosiness!
If you spread your private info around, you are asking to be a victim. Keep your private life very, very private. You absolutely must protect yourself!
