    Reading definitely helps with life. Like someone else mentioned, we can see characters make mistakes and learn from them without having to make the same mistakes ourselves. Also, books can help you learn a different way of looking at things by offering a different perspective. Then there is also the fact that by reading, we can learn more vocabulary and figure out how to have a smoother writing style, which would help in any case where one has to give a speech or write a paper. Reading has so many benefits; it's impossible to say that it doesn't help with life.

    It increases our vocabulary and helps us learn better grammar.

    It gives us an escape to take our minds off our troubles (reading for pleasure does, anyway).

    It gives us an opportunity to live vicariously through someone else's adventures.
