A philosophical question for sure. Pilate asked it of Jesus, and you ask it of us.
- what are you talking about?
- your way of life?
- your bank account?
- the state your car is in?
If you are in politics, truth is what people are made to believe.
If you are in the church business, truth is what makes money.
If you are in the stock broker business, as long as the stock broker doesn't go broke, he is happy with his truth.
If you sail a boat, the truth in regard to the boat being seaworthy or sinking is quite absolute and final.
If you check your bank account it too is quite final - though of late that depends much on the currency of your money - thus here too truth is having a gray tone of skin.
In many people's eyes the truth about God - is he?, or isn't he? - is quite the truth up in the sky for grabs by anyone. This one, however, will probably turn up to the truth that will bite a lot of people in their tails, or a worse place.
