Renaming a file extension by default? How to Change this?

Alright so despite I have a legitimate copy of Windows Xp, I love to experiment with custom operating systems such as Black XP, or something of that nature. This new one I have does something really weird. This new one I have does something really weird. Normally in Xp when you rename something like a picture, from "200.jpeg", to "300.jpeg", it will automatically include the file extension for you. But this custom OS is annoying. Every time I go to rename something, I will type in the new name, and it presents me with an error message "Are you sure you want to rename the file? Altering an extension may render the file unusable". Any way to change this so it automatically fills in the extension like normal?
