File Transfer and copying is one thing. File synchronization is another.

Is it file synchronization you need? Here are some File synchronization applications:

    Microsoft has sync toy: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?Fa...

Gbridged has a synch optoin. It is also a remote desktop application using VNC. It has Gtalk built in for chat. It is possibly more than you need:

If it just copy you need copying through the file system works. But, in cause of some error, using Windows Explorer to copy files can be troublesome. A better file manager with options to sync folders, options to retry if a copy fails, compare folders and options to only replace newer files can be a boon.

    Free Commander is one: http://www.freecommander.com/

If it is a remote location, then FTP shouldn't be giving you such a hassle. It requires the remote location have a running FTP server. Also, the client you use should have the ability to track failed transfers and resume them.

Filezilla is a good one: http://filezilla-project.org/

Ftp can also be used to sync over a secure connection. Here is one program that does this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/winscp/

If you need to sync things such as contacts, email and calender it would depend greatly on PIM, contact manager, or email you use. Yahoo has a ysnch program that can help. Gmail also has some tools that can help.
