Here's the b&w movie trailer:
YouTube has the colorized version of the movie, which dates back to when Ted Turner was trying to get people to watch older movies, finally convincing them that b&w movies ARE great to watch! Here's Part 1:
The story was remade:
Bundle of Joy (1956)
In this musical remake of "Bachelor Mother", Debbie Reynolds plays Polly Parish, an overeager clerk in a large department store; and Eddie Fisher (who was married to Debbie at this time) plays Dan Merlin, the boss' son. After getting fired from her job, she finds an adorable baby on the steps of the foundling home, and the folks inside mistake her for the mother. Dan, well-meaning, but obtuse, tries to help her out with the baby, and the buds of romance begin to appear. Meanwhile, Dan's grandfather, Merlin (Adolphe Menjou), the owner of the store, thinks he just might be a grandfather.

NOTE: When I arrived, there were no answers. I simply took too long to type the information, meaning that, yes, I sometimes have fumble fingers.

I am fairly sure that it is "Bachelor Mother"
"This one stars Ginger Rogers, in the title role, David Niven, and Charles Coburn. Rogers plays a department store employee who's mistaken for the mother of an abandoned baby.
The store is family owned and run by Coburn and his ‘playboy’ son Niven. Through a confluence of events, bachelorette Rogers ‘accepts’ the responsibility of raising the baby she names Johnnie in order to keep her job at the store.
She is assisted in this task by inexperienced caregiver Niven, whose father later comes to believe Johnnie is his illegitimate grandchild."
